There’s no doubt that the world is currently experiencing a plant-based revolution. According to a poll commissioned by the Vegan Society, Britain’s vegan population has increased from 150,000 to 542,000 in just 10 years, alongside a vegetarian population of 1.14 million. On Crowdcube, we recently funded four fantastic plant-based start-ups, which are leading the way in this new sector of businesses.

Vurger
Optiat
Stemrolls

Vegan pioneers, The Vurger Co, raised just under £300,000 from 275 investors in July last year. Having run a number of successful pop-ups, the team opened their first permanent site in Shoredtich earlier this year.

Stem + Glory is a plant based restaurant chain on a mission to disrupt the restaurant industry by serving plant based food delicious enough to turn everyone vegan. With two busy restaurants in Cambridge, the company raised over £600k from 746 investors in March this year to launch a third location in London.

Redemption is a place where socialising isn't at the expense of health or planet:100% vegan, alcohol-free, sugar-free, wheat-free. It has two sites in Notting Hill and Shoreditch, and raised over £350k from 356 investors in April to open two more locations in central London.

We’ve therefore partnered with Pitch + Plant, the UK’s first plant-based pitching competition! This year you can pitch your plant-based startup to a panel of plant-based entrepreneurs for the chance to win up to £100k in investment from BRAN Investments, a listing on Crowdcube, and product stocking in Revital.

Last year’s winner was Optiat, a company that uses coffee grounds from London’s cafes and transforms them into award-winning beauty products, Optiat’s handmade cosmetics are distributed in seven countries with retailers such as Whole Foods, Planet Organic, and Topshop. The company then went on to raise over £200k from 377 investors in a Crowdcube campaign in February this year.
