Idea

YoungPlanet is an app that enables parents to put no-longer-used children's items to good use with new families and away from landfill - all for free.

Having launched the app beyond Hackney and across London in 2020 (> 35k users), the business is now seeking investment to scale nationally and begin generating first phase revenue via brand sponsorship of events, branded gamification and B2B subscriptions for semi closed communities in the app.

TAM:

YoungPlanet is unlimited by territory, culture or language and solves critical issues for families wherever they may be. YoungPlanet’s utility has a positive environmental, social and cultural impact. In the UK there are over 6m households with dependent children, a further 65m in Europe and over 30m again in the US. YoungPlanet's mission is to become the first truly international circular platform with the breadth and depth of eBay. PWC estimates the UK’s sharing economy to be worth £9bn by 2025.

Waste & Environment:

The Daily Telegraph states that UK 10yr olds will own on avg 238 toys at any one time and yet play with just 12. UK households waste over 25m tonnes a year, 1/4 of which goes into landfill equating to 5m cars being dumped in a hole annually (DEFRA).

Costs of Parenting:

Raising children is expensive with the average UK parent expecting to spend £231k raising a child born in 2016 (up 65% from 2003, The Guardian).
