Winchester Distillery, established in 2014, has grown each year with an average YoY sales increase of 82%. The company is almost at capacity, and is seeking investment to expand production, increase sales in the UK, enter exports, and launch its rum and whisky.
Winchester Distillery, launched by Paul Bowler in 2014, was created with the goal of producing premium spirits, inspired by his historical home-city of Winchester and the surrounding landscape.
With an average sales growth of 82% YoY to £714,085 in Nov 2018 (profit: £68,055), the business has grown organically over five years, with no external finance - from just one gin brand, Twisted Nose Watercress Gin, to a portfolio of over 10 premium gins and a Hampshire wasabi vodka.
Production is up to 1,000 bottles per week and brands sold throughout the South of England, directly online and nationally through Master of Malt and Amazon. UK trade customers include Majestic Wine, Fullers, Nectar, Tolchards and Matthew Clark, plus a vast portfolio of independent retailers.
Winchester Distillery's press coverage includes BBC and ITV Meridian. The company and its brands have attracted a 19k social media following, plus 5-star reviews on TripAdvisor for its distillery tours and spirits.
In 2018, UK gin sales neared 66m bottles - a 41% uplift from 2017. Sales of British gin outside the UK also rose 15% to £612m compared to 2016.
Winchester Distillery's distilling equipment is now at capacity and investment will allow:
- Production increase & batch cost reduction
- Installation of a brewhouse
- Development of whisky & rum
- Increased UK marketing
- Export opportunities
- Gift shop opened on-site
