56.2% of mothers have made a change to their employment due to childcare. Fetching is the free app that helps parents manage the school run amongst their trusted friends, whilst keeping the school informed. We aim to use this growth phase to put us in 20% of UK schools by 2022.
In 2019 snow forced my son’s school to close at 12pm and sent parents into a panic. Some were stuck at work, others had snow-affected transport. Fortunately other parents, who lived near the school, offered to take extra children so that all were collected on time.
I realised that we could do this every day. All we needed was a way to keep it fair and ensure everyone (especially the school) was informed.
In May 2020 we launched “Fetching”, an app to help parents share after-school childcare amongst their trusted friends. By collecting a friend’s child as well as their own, they earn credits that they can use when they need their own child fetching.
The app is free, if you put in as much informal childcare as you use. Subscriptions at £10 and £20 per month help those who need a larger “credits overdraft”.
This funding round will let us to grow our parent user base and with the aim of making it the must-have product for primary schools. Our early adopters are already seeing the benefits - some use it as the only way to alter collection arrangements.
2020 has created a perfect storm for Fetching, as schools adapt to new tech and parents work from home. The pandemic has also shown people working together to solve larger problems - we will ride this wave.
Childcare is too expensive for many. Our platform aims to get more parents back to work and reduce admin in schools after an epic year.
