Only 11% of the £17.7bn UK furniture & furnishings market is online. Trend will offer an online market for furniture & fabrics using Augmented Reality apps, so customers can see items in their home before they buy. They have a make-to-order business model without warehousing or showrooms.
The rapid migration of major sectors of the high street to digital did not include furniture. Still only 11% of the £17.7bn UK furniture industry is online. We believe Augmented Reality is the gamechanger that will revolutionise how furniture is purchased: customers seeing items in their own home, before they buy them.
Trend Editions believes that its tech focus and intent to provide ethical sourcing on a make-to-order basis will challenge the traditional industry. We aim to be an AR-only UK retailer , offering sustainable, hardwood products that help customers to buy wisely and stop some of the 670,000 tonnes of furniture going to UK landfill every year.
We believe we can make money more easily than incumbents with large inventory and expensive long leases. We plan to operate a lean business model and deliver a slick, targeted digital business with AR technology, sustainability and profit at its heart.
We use supply-chain management software on licence developed by Rock & Roost, a company that has previously campaigned on Crowdcube with a more conventional retail model. This software is used to supply products to ASOS, John Lewis & Next and is intended to help us to make significant savings, enabling us to grow quickly and achieve our forecast more profitably.
