My Gator Watch, an award-winning technology brand, sells one of the UK's highest-rated wearable mobile phone/tracker for children. Selling primarily on Amazon, we have sold over 2300 watches, and as a 2018 AXA tech winner, we are returning to Crowdcube to raise funds for expansion into the elderly market.
The My Gator Watch is a wearable mobile phone/tracker developed in China that offers voice calls and GPS/WIFI tracking almost anywhere in the world. We started our business to tackle a big problem - parents want to stay connected with their younger children without the need to give them smartphones. In 2017, we raised £200k on Crowdcube to build our team, market the brand and expand into Europe. We did just that.
As our brand grew, we noticed customers buying the watch for their elderly spouse or parent. This grew into initial orders being placed from 3 Councils for customers in this market, highlighting our product has started solving another big problem - but in a much bigger market. 18M people in the UK are aged 60 and over, with 97% of them not wanting to be put in a care home. Alongside this, existing communication devices for the elderly may not work outside the home and/or are very expensive.
In Spring 2018, AXA had a competition to find a wearable which gave their elderly customers independence, whilst also providing a layer of support in case of emergency. The AXA team saw our potential/benefits and our watch was chosen as the winning product, giving the chance to explore future opportunities together.
We plan to use the funds raised to create a new website and brand for the elderly market, to develop new features/accessories and to increase marketing for both markets.
