Lingoo is a peer-to-peer homestay platform connecting language learners, vetted hosts and teachers. With 13,500 users & over 25,000 nights booked between members for language homestays since 2016, the Lingoo business model is working. Our objective is to be "the world's language holiday platform".
Language travel, as a portion of the global youth travel market, is worth over US$11bn a year. The traditional segment of this sector reports that 2.2m people book a language course abroad annually; 60% to improve their English.
Despite this, only 0.25% of language learners take a language school course abroad. Our research has shown that learners are frustrated by rigid, expensive offers from language travel agents and schools. We feel that this is a market ripe for change.
Lingoo aims to disrupt this market, with our peer-to-peer, sharing economy flexibility.
Since 2016, we’ve handled nearly €1m in transactions between our members. Lingoo connects language learners of all ages with each other, hosts or teachers for flexible, inexpensive, language and cultural holidays. Our users match themselves.
The personal education market is perennial and resilient. Perfecting a second language (mainly English) is vital for many young people’s future careers and ability to study overseas. Young learners are a consistently replenishing target group.
Initial traction in Western Europe means Lingoo is now aiming to go global. With, for example, over 300 million Chinese citizens learning English, we feel that there is a real potential for worldwide growth.
We’re funding to spread our model to the Americas and Asia, through platform enhancements and increased marketing.
