Poppy’s Picnic produces fresh raw dog food, handmade in the heart of Wiltshire, using quality local ingredients. Within a year of going online in Oct 16, it grew sales from £7k-£50k pm and started exporting to Hong Kong. Funds will be used to launch a cat food range and expand its dog food offering
Poppy's Picnic produces fresh raw dog food. It’s handmade in the heart of Wiltshire by 4th generation butchers using the same ingredients you and I would eat. The food is frozen for freshness and delivered next day.
Over 50% of UK dogs are obese and a growing number have diabetes. As with humans, this is down to eating a high-carb, high-sugar diet of processed food. But this is preventable epidemic.
Dogs should be eating meat - it’s obvious really. Raw food is ‘biologically appropriate’, meaning it is the closest to what a dog would eat in the wild. We believe this is what they are designed to eat.
Raw is currently a small fraction of the £2.6bn UK pet food industry. But raw is disrupting the market and growing an estimated 15% YoY. With this round of funding our aim is to launch a cat food range and expand our dog food offering.
Since going online in Oct 2016 we have sold over 380,000 meals (based on UK average dog size) and profitable to Sept 17 (£20,659 net profit). We started to export to Hong Kong in early 2017 and have secured a partner for Malaysia and Indonesia (for cat food).
We have a strong social following and have built up our customer base mainly through these channels. Our whole range is rated 5 out of 5 on AllAboutDogFood and top for user experience - this is echoed in our 160+ five star reviews on Facebook and Google.
