EQUUS was founded in 2013 in response to a clear gap in the extremely fragmented £4.3bn UK equestrian market. The business has grown from start-up to become the UK’s fastest growing online only equestrian retailer built on the principle of “by riders, for riders”.
EQUUS was founded in 2013 by husband and wife team Kim Horton and Steve Wood after a disastrous visit to a tack shop. Kim, a lifelong horse owner, identified a gap in the fragmented £4.3bn UK equestrian market for a customer-centric online business which truly understood its rider community.
We set out to build a one-stop online shop to provide riders with the best products carefully curated for them by a passionate team based on 3 core principles:

Add value to the community – Offer information and advice our customers really need
In 2014, the business received £150k from Jenson Funding Partners SEIS Fund to enable the business to expand from initial concept. Since then it has served over 14k customers with 21k orders at an Average Order Value (“AOV”) of £60. Our website has 60k visits per month and has built a loyal following with 32k people signed up to our email database.
In the year to March '17 we had Sales of £409,603 with Profit of £13,909, whilst in the last 8 months we have had Sales of £347,875 and Profit of £8,941. There are directors loans in the business.
We're raising to increase customer acquisition, conversion and retention, and to develop EQUUS branded products.
