ECOPOW3R has designed a containerised off-grid solar solution (ARC) to provide affordable, clean and reliable AC power to rural communities in Africa on a 24-hour, Pay-As-You-Go basis. Initially, ECOPOW3R plans to install a total of 540 ARCs in Rwanda to connect 450,000 people and enterprises.
ECOPOW3R provides an opportunity to be part of the rapidly emerging off-grid solar market in Africa, forecast to exceed £1bn of revenue per year by 2020. We have developed a containerised solar unit (ARC) to provide AC power to rural communities and businesses on a Pay-As-You-Go basis through mobile payments. ECOPOW3R’s objective is to install the ARCs providing affordable, reliable and clean energy in Rwanda, where more than 7 million people do not have access, prior to a longer-term rollout across Africa.
The ARCs have been designed to use off-the-shelf technologies, integrated with ECOPOW3R’s innovative SMART systems, to allow for continuous cost and efficiency improvements. ECOPOW3R will deliver transparent cost-reflective tariffs to rural villages to reduce their costs and stimulate local economic growth by supporting small enterprises and secondary markets such as appliance rentals, wi-fi and water pumps.
ECOPOW3R successfully completed the design, development and testing in 2017 and will be installing 6 ARCs in 2018, connecting over 5,000 people. ECOPOW3R plans to install a total of 540 ARCs in Rwanda, connecting over 450,000+ people, as part of a regional expansion.
ECOPOW3R plans to deploy blockchain technology in the medium term to deliver smart contracts and digital identities for our customers in line with the government’s digitisation strategy.
